Putting used to be the worst part of my game. I rarely had fewer than 36 putts per round, and on occasion would have over 40. This was not good enough, especially for someone playing off a scratch handicap and with dreams of playing professionally.
My putting became so bad that I would start to get nervous before I reached the green. This put pressure on my long game and I continually struggled to play to my potential. The most frustrating aspect was the generally the better I struck the ball, the more nervous (even scared) I would become with the putter. This was a terrible cycle and one that I was desperate to end.
I can trace my poor putting form back to when a golf coach tried to change my technique. Before any putting lessons I simply walked up to the ball and hit it into the hole...simple but really effective. It took years for my instinctive putting game to leave me, but it seemed that once it had, I would never get it back. Especially when you yip and flinch on the easiest of putts.
Even more frustrating was the routine and style that I showed Aaron Baddeley was everything that I believed in. Some golf coaches had tried to change his putting technique, but he always resisted. I had fallen for the technique trap hook, line and sinker. I was not very happy with myself for getting away from a method and mind set that had proven itself a million times to work.
I made a commitment to myself to redirect my energy into improving my putting game. I forgot about technique and set about to improve my confidence and find a more natural and effective approach.
Bit by bit things returned to normal. Two years down the track my putting is the best part of my game. I make most of those pressure putts and hole my fair share of some longs one too. I now enjoy walking on to the green and relish the challenge of sinking difficult putts. Those horrible times of yipping, getting nervous and having no confidence seem a distant memory.
I have put my putting ideas into a short E-book. I feel so passionate about helping others who struggle on the greens that I am giving it away FREE. I feel strongly that this is information that can help you immediately and get you over your putting problems. The concepts contained within form the back bone of my natural learning principles and can help all areas of your game.
